Welcome to the Sutherland Calculator
The Sutherland Calculator is BS-EN 12831-1 compliant, and can accurately and automatically calculate the appropriate size of replacement central heating boiler for ANY domestic property, including variations in:
- Current heating system installed & fuel being used
- Window types
- Type of Flooring
- Type of Roofing
- External walls
- Dwelling type
- Regional location of dwelling
- Any associated extensions
The Sutherland Calculator demonstrates to the home owner comparative differences that could be achieved by applying energy efficiency improvements to their home such as:
- double or triple glazing
- increased loft insulation
- the addition of cavity wall insulation
It provides the home owner with a comparison of the current and potential home heating costs and Carbon Efficiency ranking of their property.
It also helps home owners make informed decisions as to the costs, both financial and to the environment, of their subsequent choices and actions.
About Us
The Sutherland Calculator is a Field Modelling tool for Replacement Boiler Sizing, Comparative Running Costs & Carbon Emissions.
It has been created by Sutherland Tables, which is a reputable and established source of independent and impartial information on domestic heating costs www.sutherlandtables.co.uk
Sutherland Comparative Domestic Heating Costs Tables have been published regularly since 1976
Why Use the Calculator?
While UK Building regulations requires Plumbing and Heating Engineers to calculate the size of new central heating boilers by adopting room by room heat loss calculations, this lengthy and complex process takes times.
While such calculations are required on completion of works for self-certification and/or Building Control sign off, our much simpler, whole building approach is compliant with BS-EN 12831-1 for replacement boilers, where a whole-house approach can be adopted.
As our simple calculator is suitable for initial quotation, it will save installers time, money and effort when quoting for a boiler replacement, when there is no guarantee that the customer will have the work carried out, or worse, go to a competitor. Therefore an installer can estimate the size of the replacement boiler, provide a cost estimate and factor in full heat loss calculations, post installation, should he win the job.
So why use our calculator? Sutherland Calculator can quickly and simply provide figures for current and potential home heating costs and Carbon Efficiency ranking of a property at quotation stage.
